|
|
Recently we've had a rash of people using SBC call in with this problem as well as many other ISP's Optonline, Cox-Residential. Verizon, MSN as well as hotels and wi-fi hot spots and the list continues to grow.
To see if this applies to you follow these steps
Go to
Start
then:
Run
type cmd (hit enter)
@ prompt type this :
telnet typeyourdomain.com 25
IF your isp is blocking you: it will say:
Cannot open connection to the host, on port 25: Connect failed.
If it applies here are some workarounds:
You may choose to use sbcglobals (or your ISP's ) outbound Email. This as no effect on how your Email appears to your customer or how they reply back. You would need to consult with SBC or your ISP to set that up.
You may choose to use port587 (first choice) or Port 465 for outbound mail, found on the advanced tab of your outlook/outlook express mail client. You will also need the check the box labled SSL. If you don't understand how to do this you need to use the method above and consult with your ISP.
For SBC Customers: SBC says that you can write in and ask them to add you domain back to their allow list so that you will be able to send mail from your domain account. You would write abuse@sbcglobal.net and explain that they have blocked you from sending Email though your domain. You will need to provide them with you domain name. If you don't know your domain name or your Email address that you use, please feel free to Email techsupport for a clarification.
As of 2/1 we are finding that they some of the domains being added are now being deleted an SBC needs to be re-emailed.
If you have another host and they give you info we would welcome you to come back and post the information of how you were advised to fix it from other ISPs. The SBC fix is only because one of customers came back and told us about it.
Thanks.

| One of our customer has called SBC and they removed the block on the spot. That may be a new alternative to the provision we outlned above. We aren't sure @ this point if it is case by case, base on what support tech you get. |

I have contacted SBC twice. The first time was of no help. I changed my outgoing mail to port 465 and thought the problem was resolved. However, today, I am again blocked. The Tech Support at SBC had me go online to the following to fill out a form. Ugh!
http://help.sbcglobal.net/servabuse.php
According to the tech, I should receive "relief" in 12 hours. Sounds like a bad antacid! |

| BellSouth's online help says that Outlook's mail account must specifiy the outgoing mail (STMP) to be "mail.bellsouth.net". It seems to work. |

We have added a new port to our servers to help deal with this problem. We've opened port 587 and that will allow mail to connect on that port. We've test this on Bell South and find that it did fix their issue.
If your web hosting isn't here with us, i can't guarantee this to work for you because not all web hosts allow access to this port.
Please post your experience here if this works for you. |

My problem with out bound mail was solved with the 528 port fix but it takes longer to connect/send and tries to time out. also Norton always asks if I want to allow a connection. is this going to be normal from now on?
But it's working!
thanks Ron |

Maybe now the system will accept the following message?
Okay, I followed the instructions posted here and this is what I got.
Since my mail is routinely sent from my domain name hosted at ACTWD, I tried that first. I typed:
telnet computer-productivity.com 25
After a long delay, the response came back:
220 thirdrock.actwd.net ESMTP
Then, nothing seemed to be happening, so I typed:
exit
And got this response:
502 unimplemented <#5.5.1>
Then, nothing else seemed to be happening, so I closed the dialog window.
I have another e-mail account at earthlink that I use in Outlook, so I tried:
telnet earthlink.net 25
This was the response I got from that attempt:
220-pop-borzoi.at1.sa.earthlink.net Exim 3.36 #1 Sat, 14 Jun 2008 13:48:17 -0400
220-NO UCE. Earthlink does not authorize the use of its computers or network 220 equipment to deliver, accept, transmit, or distribute unsolicited e-mail.
Frankly, none of this means anything useful to me. Can someone tell me what I need to try next?
Thanks very much. |

After posting the prior message, I went into my setup and changed the port on my computer-productivity account to 527 per the instructions and tried sending again.
I got the same result when trying to send. The processing window opens up showing the system trying to send mail, but it does not seem to connect and just sits there, frozen.
I would like to know what changed and where to cause this problem. I did not make any changes to my setup, so it must have been something that someone else in the system changed. One day my mail worked fine, and the next day it did not work at all!!
By the way, I have received mail, but when I tried to reply to it, the send failed! |
