I never like having to post messages like this however, It appears that Comcast is blocking smaller isp's who foward mail to comcast customers from their websites. I've done some reading and some newspapers have done articles on this and said that their estimation is an anti competitve practice on the part of comcast. I don't know if i agree with that. I more think they are trying to save money under the charade of trying to protect their customers. We seem to come on and off this list.
Okay now that I"ve editorialized, I want to talk briefly about catch all emails and why they should not be used any longer. Over the last few years we have had to remove catchall, when people's domians have come under attack from mail spammers. What is happening is known as a dictionary attack, which they start @ a and then move to b and so on sending spam to every variation of a name. So as your domain comes under attack, we find somone recieving hundreds of emails per day that are not for people @ your site. Spammers are paid for each one that isn't returned. No one really needs a catch all any longer and if yours has stopped, rest assured that it means that you were under attack.
I also want to address forwards, Email that is sent to your domain that you are forwarding on to your ISP Email. Folks, you can handle this how you want, but there are no guarentees. AOL is the prime culprit of problems. They are not consistantly giving people forward emails. Orders, legal docs for lawyers, notices from mortgage companies and banks regarding legit matters. We want to ask all of you to try to get away from relaying mail to your ISP's. They are not consitant in giving you your mail and are flagging mail that comes though your site as spam. I really just don't want to see you lose your important business Email for something that is out of your control.
Spam is big bucks and I can see curbing it saving AOL and Comcast big bucks. The spammer doesn't pay. But the unfortunate thing is as these big companies put these harsh policies in place, all they are hurting is their own customers and small business, who depending on their Email for their livelyhood. We here are acutely aware how important sites and mail are. We understand your site and its revenue may be the difference whether your mortgage gets paid this month or not. I don't know how many of the larger companies can say that and actually stand behind it.
Please contact support if you need help with your Email.
Thanks
