Hi - Thank you for hosting this forum. My partner Terry and I have been happy customers for around 8 years - we had another site hosted with you guys before our current one. I'm not sure who answers here, but if its Beth ... i'm Bob. I spoke with you on the phone last week about my effort to get my site to the top. What you said to me about reciprocal linking does make sense, and I have stopped doing it. I have lots of questions and will probably take up some of your spare time here, but since you offered ... I need advice.
First questions ... are about the current reciprocal links I have on our site.
Should I remove links - first weeding out sites that aren't linking back, then the less relevant ones?
Are SOME relevant reciprocal links OK, like the jewelry related links I have on the site?
Are other search engines using these links as a ranking factor? The site just recently became fairly well ranked on Yahoo and Live for several of my major search phrases, and don't want to negatively impact that.
I have lots of directory links I pay fees to that are one way incoming links. These are good links, correct? What about paid text link ads on blogs? I pay to have three blogs link to the site ... I know google "sees" and counts them, so I'm assuming they are beneficial ... am I right?
So far I have written four jewelry related articles. Two have been approved and are live; two are pending. I can't use URLs here but I think you'll get the idea. I posted them on: ezinearticlesdotcom
Is this is the type of thing you advised me to do?
I have lots more but don't want to scare you away ... but
Here's another idea I'm throwing around ...
I own another URL (an alternate) that also points to our site:
jewelry24-7dotcom
This URL was registered quite a while ago ... its almost as old as the one we use for our site. Would it be a good idea to start a second website - clean, with no bad stuff connected to it - and split off our "commercial" type jewelry from our handcrafted jewelry?
After it is moved, will search engines associate the second URL with our current site because it points to that domain now?
I know you can help me move the DNS over and do all the tech stuff ... if you think I should do that. I am thinking its a good idea - I would use your software to build the site. I looked at it as you suggested on the phone ... it looks like it is very easy to use.
That's enough for you to think about for now ... I'll check in later ... Bob |
