Uploading Your Site
Ooooooooooooo, this is the exciting
part. If one were to liken this to having children,
I suppose this would be childbirth...only not as messy.
Uploading means sending your website files up to the web
server where they can be seen and used by others.
Ready?
Uploading varies slightly
depending on what you used to create your site. Some of
the WYSIWYG editors have a built in upload function. If
you are using one of these editors please refer to the detail
page for that program for more information on uploading.
If you coded your site by hand or used an editor that doesn't
have built in upload then you will need FTP (File Transfer
Protocol) software to upload the site. Go to FTP for a
link to free FTP software and details on how to use it.
You will also need some details
from your web hosting provider in order to upload your
site. If you haven't arranged for hosting service yet,
you will need to do so now in order to have a "home"
for your website. Typically your hosting provider will
give you a user name and password to access your site.
You can also ask them about what address you should use to
upload your site. Many hosting providers will send a
set-up letter when you sign up which includes all the
information you need to get your site uploaded and
running. Make sure that your hosting provider will be
willing to help you if you run into problems. Ask about
their tech/customer support policies.
